The Riparian Woman’s Club is asking all residents and businesses in the City of Emporia and Greensville County to place a sign or picture of one of these three symbols on your door or window. The symbols are a Rainbow, Butterfly, or a Candle. These symbols all represent "hope."

We are asking the public to do this in support of our frontline workers and those families who have been affected by the coronavirus. We also wish to do this in support of each other.

So many people are suffering in so many different ways during this time of uncertainty and isolation. Hopefully, seeing these symbols will bring a smile to someone’s face. If so, then we have served our purpose well.

Leroy Jarratt, 77, of Emporia, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019. He was retired owner-operator of Interstate Citgo Service Station in Emporia and a member of Fountain Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. An avid fisherman, He also was a charter member of Meherrin Bass Club.

Mr. Jarratt is survived by his wife of 60 years, Loretta V. Jarratt; daughter, Angela Harding (Roger); sons, David Jarratt (Kiana) and Robin Jarratt (Michele); nine grandchildren, Josh Harding (Christina), Daniel Harding (Stephanie), Aaron Harding (Martha), Seth Harding (Rebecca), Alyssa Jarratt, Demi Jarratt, Jeremiah Jarratt, Jacob Jarratt and Jordan Jarratt; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rebecca Newsome (Dennis) and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 25 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd., Jarratt, Virginia where the family will receive friends 12-2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Greensville Memorial Cemetery.
